Day 2: Jakle Cove to Bedwell Harbor, South Pender Island

Again things went mostly according to the cruise plan BUT the currents along the south shore of San Juan Island were hugely different that I expected based on my reference books (upwards of 4+kts). This held us back and made us over an hour late despite motor-sailing. The wind came up 10-15kts SE after noon so we were running for several hours jibing the genoa back and forth with the shifts. I didn't run the main to avoid the accidental jibes that happened the day before.

At Bedwell Harbor we cleared Canadian customs by phone from the dock, then picked up a few things from the store before anchoring out on the opposite side of the harbor where it was significantly less crowded.

The photo illustrates what "Tide Rips" on the chart means. There is virtually no wind at this point and those white caps are from the current.
