In a sense, writing when you feel that somebody needs to have information that you have, is a form of public service. It is with that perspective that I've written from time to time on topics where I felt my experience or point of view might be of benefit to others. The following are sample areas in which I written with this goal. Ergonomics - By the early 1990's, my long-term use of computers lead to tendonitis in my shoulder and arm. Throughout the 1980's and even in the early 1990's, the area of repetitive stress injuries, which includes tendonitis, carpal tunnel syndrome and others, was poorly understood so I leveraged all that I had learned and wrote about it. Social Commentary - Nothing like moving from the West Coast to the East Coast to get you to see the world differently. In the early 1990's I wrote a number of acerbic short essays issues that provoked me, including waste of public funds and violence in sports. ESWA President - I'm a past President and speaker coordinator for the Eastside Writers Association in Kirkland, Washington. As the president I wrote a column for the group's newsletter called the Pres Says. |
