Chris Powells on the web

Christopher Powell and/or Chris Powell turns out to be a relatively common name which has lead to some interested misadventures in my life, like the time I got a phone call at 3am from a drunken "relative" I'd never heard of, from somewhere in the mid-west, trying to convince me that I was their Chris Powell.  But perhaps the most notable of these events occurred in 1981.  I was in my first year of full-time employment in Palo Alto, CA and had taken my first paid vacation one week during the summer to ride my motorcycle to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland, OR.  On returning to work I was stunned when my boss exclaimed, "Oh, so you're not dead!" and had to assure him that I was quite alive.  It turned out that while I was gone, he'd read an obituary for Chris Powell who had died in a motorcycle accident less than 3 miles from my house in the mountains.  The Chris Powell involved was clearly not me, but a rather less conservative motorcycle rider from a neighboring town.

From the nearly 40 Chris Powells I have encountered in the Internet world, there are some interesting similarities among us.  Seven are academics or teachers.  Twelve are artists, photographers, musicians or writers - thirteen including me.  And three of us have training or careers in computer software.  Here are some of the other Chris Powells that you'll see on the web.
